Finding Terms

You can choose the instrument section and scroll through the instruments, e.g. flute in Orchestra-> Woodwind. Or you can search in the 'Whole dictionary' section.

'Learning curve'

The icons to the left of the terms indicate their comparative rarity. The green, shallow learning curve items are the more common terms. The rarer ones are shown by the steeper, blue learning curve. The most advanced terms have a steep red learning curve. You can filter the terms according to rarity by clicking on the icon button to the right of the search box. Clicking/tapping on the icon first shows standard instruments, then rarer ones, then advanced ones and finally all instruments.

Viewing Terms

Many terms have several pages of information. Use the right and left arrows on screen or on your keyboard to navigate between them. The tabs on the top right indicate whether the term has associated music scores, videos, learning information and extended audio recordings.

Expanding pictures

If your monitor has a big screen and high resolution, the pictures will appear full size. On smaller screens pictures can be expanded to their full size by clicking/touching the picture or the expansion icon on the bottom right. Click/touch the picture anywhere to go back to normal size.

Expanding text

Press the large A button at the top right of the Focus on Sound screen.

Expanding music scores

Press the expansion icon at the bottom right of the music score screen. Do the same to return to normal size. Better still, expand your browser tab to full screen as well. On Windows, press F11. On Apple Mac press shift-cmd-F. Do the same to get back to normal screen.
